Dr. Nighat Qureshi passed away in New York on Friday, Nov 19, 2010. She graduated from King Edwards Medical College Lahore Pakistan in 1972 and was a long time resident of Fort Worth, Texas where she practiced Internal Medicine for over two decades. She was a very compassionate, cheerful and caring physicians. She gave freely of her time and money for many charitable causes. She was an honorable member of American Muslim Women Physicians Association(AMWPA) and regularly volunteered to work in health fairs held at different mosques. Her untimely death was very sudden and came as a shock to all who knew her. She left a mark on the lives of many, including her two kids, a son and a daughter. May her soul rest in peace.
AMWPA has started a memorial fund in her name and has already donated $1000 to Asian Breast Health Outreach Project of Methodist Richardson Medical Center. Members and non-members are urged to donate generously to this fund. Breast Cancer is still the most diagnosed cancer in women and in 2010 alone it’s estimated death toll was close to 40,000 women.
